International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL)
The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is an inter-governmental organization with 194 member states. The organization works with the police in every single member state to ensure a safer future. The committee remains politically neutral, as it does not participate in matters of politics, religion, or race. The agency focuses on the following areas of crime: terrorism, organized crime, international fugitives, cyber crime, human trafficking of any kind, drugs, money laundering, and environmental crime.
There are eight types of notices that may be issues by INTERPOL's General Secretariat at the request of the National Central Bureaus (NCBs) and authorized entities. The purpose of the notices is to alert the police of all member countries. The following is a description of the eight notices:
Red Notice: issued to locate and arrest the individual who is convicted in the criminal case. It is important to note that the Red Notice does not mean the person is guilty, as they must be proven guilt by the court. INTERPOL may not put pressure on any country to arrest the individual who is served a Red Notice, as each country has the freedom to decide the value of the Red Notice within their borders.
Yellow Notice: issued to locate the missing persons or to help identify those who are unable to identify themselves, which are often minors. The basic motive behind issuing the yellow notice is to raise global alert to help locate missing persons. Yellow Notices are publishes for victims of criminal abductions or unexplained disappearance.
Blue Notice: issued to the country the criminal belongs to. The purpose is to collect more information about a person's identity or crime activities.
Black Notice: issued to seek information of unidentified bodies (dead body of a person whose identity cannot be revealed by medical examiners or the police).
Green Notice: issued to provide warnings and information about those who have committed criminal offenses, with the probability of them repeating the crimes in other countries. The Green Notice is often used for sex offenders.
Orange Notice: issued to send an alert about an object, a person, bombs in parcels, disguised weapons, and other explosive materials and objects that represent a threat to public safety.
Purple Notice: issued for criminals that hunt wild animals and sell their body parts in the international black markets. The Purple Notice helps to tackle environmental criminals.
Interpol-United Nations Security Council Special Notice: issued for groups/individuals who are targets of the of the UN security Council Sanctions Committees. The Interpol-United Nations Security Council Special Notice is often used for terrorist groups.
