Ibn Khuldoon Model United Nations (IKMUN) is an annual two-day high school conference. Held at the esteemed Ibn Khuldoon National School, located in the heart of the educational area, IKMUN has attracted hundreds of delegates from the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the State of Kuwait.
The IKMUN head team has worked tirelessly to maintain a well renowned reputation, mainly built through creative issues and successful councils we have introduced to the Bahrain Model United Nations community, though there’s always room for improvement! This year, IKMUN’s breaking traditions and setting new trends, with extra care for structure, professionalism and organization, IKMUN is well underway!
Our Goal
Social Orientation
For the past six years, the Ibn Khuldoon Model United Nations (IKMUN) conference has built strong relations with other schools in Bahrain. This has helped attract an array of different delegates from the Kingdom of Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the State of Kuwait. This year, IKMUN has worked for a goal to open opportunities for students at government schools in Bahrain. With training sessions designed to cater to their needs, IKMUN is set to build relationships between the students studying at different schools for a better future.
Academic Orientation
IKMUN has always recognized the importance of academic orientation in any Model United Nations conference. IKMUN has built a reputation based around the creative councils and issues that create a new dynamic in the Bahrain Model United Nations community. With a mixture of General Assembly, Specialized, Historical, and Arabic-speaking councils, IKMUN is able to meet any delegates' needs. As a conference, we prioritize creating an environment that favors strong debate and discussion, which is achieved by effective chair training sessions and clear background research provided to delegates.
Additionally, IKMUN asks delegates to prepare a position paper (one for each topic) prior to the conference. With the knowledge obtained, delegates are fully capable of participating in: strong debates, writing detailed and efficient resolutions, and develop leadership and speaking skills.
The IKMUN conference has played an important role in diversifying the Model United Nations community, in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, by opening opportunities to hold different positions despite the lack of experience in them. With training sessions catered to develop skills needed to successfully hold the position, it is without a doubt that IKMUN has helped produced some of the strongest individuals in the community.
Global Engagement
This year, the Ibn Khuldoon Model United Nations (IKMUN) has taken part in the MUN Refugee Challenge supported by the United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). A majority of our councils will surround factors that contribute to the four topics of challenge:
Climate change and displacement
Countering toxic narratives about refugees and migrants
Supporting the economic inclusion of refugees
Improving access to education for refugees
Resolutions written by delegates attending will be submitted to a jury, which consists of young refugee leaders, independent experts, and UNHCR members. The best and most creative ideas will be shared with policymakers and promoted on UNHCR's social media platforms. The IKMUN team is devoted to build bridges between our local Model United Nations community and the United Nations.
